About Me

Janet Schrager PhD, Clinical Psychologist,

With over 30 years of experience

After 10 years in private practice in Storrs, Connecticut, I joined Clinical Associates of Greater Hartford LLC. where I have practiced for the last 20 years.

As a clinical psychologist, I treat children and adults with a variety of psychological and adjustment disorders. Anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, and stress respond well to psychotherapy. I have been very successful at helping all ages manage developmental challenges, and navigate numerous transitional periods to successfully overcome emotional distress, and achieve the goals that initially motivated them to seek help.

I have over thirty years of experience working in both the Connecticut public school and private prepatory school system, helping students overcome learning challenges, and overall adjustment difficulties. .Due to the high percentage of international students enrolled in private schools, I have also gained extensive experience helping this very diverse group to make a successful transition into this country. In addition to psychotherapy, when requested I can provide independent evaluations describing each student's personal learning style and/or disability, I then develop detailed reports explaining the necessary recommendations for assistance and accommodations.

What happens in the home has an effect on both students and their parents. My background with children, teens, and families prepared me to help those in conflict, which led me to specifically help families experiencing divorce.  I offer counseling and custody evaluations with the best interest of the child as the central focus.

I have become involved in the burgeoning field of positive psychology, active in the clinical division peer consultation group of the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA). Founded by researcher Martin Seligman, PhD, positive psychology is the scientific study of what makes life most worth living and focuses on life's positive events and influences. I am a trained Mentor Coach, certified in Applied Positive Psychology (CAPP) from the The Flourishing Center.  I can help clients learn practical skills, with tangible tools that can be applied to develop new behaviours, allowing them to create a life of meaning and purpose.
